Lewis has added an interesting twist to The Football Association this year, where we can play for a charity. I thought I would share some information about my choice.
Discuss you charity below so we can learn about everyone's charity!
I selected the Crosswinds Foundation. It is run by a friend of mine. They developed a couple of movies to help returning veterans who struggle with PTSD and something called Moral Injury.
Our veterans have one of the highest suicide rates in our country, as the struggle adjusting to normal life after combat. Many no longer feel worthy to enter a church because of what they had to do when in combat. The project is called The Invisible Scars project.
I chose compassion international. They do great work in educating, feeding and otherwise providing for children in poverty around the world. The letters you receive from the children are priceless. From the 1990's to around 2003 I watched a girl in Haiti grow up into productive work. Then I sponsored a girl in India from age 8 to 21. Sadly, the Indian government made impossible for Compassion to continue there after more than 40 years. These experiences made it easy for my choice. Now I have even more incentive to win!
Rachel and I have chosen a non-profit 501c3 that I am a founding member, and current board member: the Huntsville Lacrosse Association.
It is the parent organization for all lacrosse activity in North Alabama, providing an lacrosse opportunities for boys and girls from 8U thru high school. As a grassroots organization that started in 2007, HLA works with schools, officials, coaches, and other statewide, national, regional and municipal groups to follow the motto of US Lacrosse to "Honor the Game"
This year my selection is NorthStar Soccer Ministries as my charity. NorthStar was founded by Paul Neville. He has chosen to live his life investing in the lives of urban youth in Birmingham by providing a high quality Soccer Club within a holistic, Christian environment. He is truly making a difference in the lives of urban children and teens with tutoring, soccer and life lessons.
